This was my final major project for my Diploma in Interactive Media.  The theme set for the project was ‘Airport’, and as my progression was to be on to the Interior Architecture course, I elected to design a waiting/play area.

The area is divided in to 3 areas: seating, soft play for younger children, and a sensory/reading/games area for older children.

The soft play contains the traditional and ubiquitous ball pool and also incorporates some sensory play items from Snoezelen, including a colour changing bubble tube and tactile circles on the padded flooring.

The area for older children contains seating (‘C’  and ‘S’ series from Yellow Diva) and shelving lit with leds.  The shelving is to contain books, magazines and traditional board games, bucking the trend to include games consoles in every children’s area.  Also within this area is a smaller, darkened pod which houses interactive sensory panels from Snoezelen.

The main area contains seating from the Three series by Jasper Morrison.  The lighting pillars give a diffused glow whilst the main area lighting is delivered from recessed strips that rise up the wall and continue across the ceiling.  The area also contains a tactile mural created with different textures and reflective surfaces.
